Second Chance has been rescuing and rehoming cats and dogs in the Portsmouth area for 20 years. It is important to us that all our animals go to loving safe homes so hoe checks are an important part of our rehoming process. Second Chance is an animal welfare focused charity and will always try to help an animal in need, no animals are put to sleep unless they have a medical condition that makes that the kindest route for them. We believe that neutering and micro-chipping are essential and much of our funds go on these procedures, along with flea treatments and wormers. Second Chance has spent the last 20 years taking in and coordinating the rehoming of many lost and unwanted animals, re-uniting lost animals with their owners and working to educate people about animal welfare. Please help us to continue with this work.
All of our animals are treated & neutered at The Grove so we have formed very close bonds with them. We have a food donation box at the front of their practice and we kindly recieve dog and cat food to give to our foster homes. Any donations are also greatly recieved to pay towards any of our cats and dogs vet bills.
You can visit our Facebook page here where we advertise for any appeals and the pets we have up for rehoming.

It’s clear how much care and intention goes into every rehoming decision here, especially the focus on long-term welfare. I volunteered with a small rescue during exam season and even leaned on online exam takers at one point so I could keep helping with foster check-ins and food runs. Knowing animals are never treated as disposable really matters. Support like this keeps compassion practical and gives vulnerable pets a real second chance.
